Under the direction of Edward Hall, all-male set-up Propeller aims to bring Shakespeare’s texts to vivid life for contemporary audiences.

Propeller will be staging revivals of their hugely successful productions of The Comedy of Errors and A Midsummer Night’s Dream this week.

In The Comedy of Errors, two sets of estranged twins, separated at birth, find themselves in the same city 25 years later. A series of mistaken identities, assumed personas, and wild mishaps bring a family crisis – so complicated that time itself loses the plot – into focus.

Propeller’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream has enchanted packed houses all over the world. Love and illusion collide when two pairs of lovers become entangled in fairy mischief on the eve of a royal wedding. Dreams and reality become interchangeable and romantic chaos ensues.

Both productions – that play at Canterbury’s Marlowe Theatre this week – are directed by Propeller’s artistic director Edward Hall.

The Comedy of Errors is on Tuesday, March 4, and Friday, March 7, at 7.30pm, with a Saturday matinee at 2pm.

Tickets: Tuesday and Friday evenings: £11 to £25.50. Saturday matinee: £9 to £18.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream is on Wednesday, March 5, Thursday, March 6, and Saturday, March 8, at 7.30pm, with a Thursday matinee at 1pm. Tickets: Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday evenings £11 to £25.50. Thursday matinee: £9 to £18. Call 01227 787787 to book for both shows.

It’s a busy week for Propeller, as other members of the company will be at Margate’s Theatre Royal at 7.30pm on Thursday, March 6.

They will be performing Pocket Henry V – reducing Shakespeare’s classic to 60 minutes.

Sharp English weapons combine with Shakespeare’s noble words to bring history to life in this pocket-sized show for young audiences. In a world where loyalty and courage are put to the test, will Henry V and England prevail and win the day?

After the performance, the audience is invited to join the actors and give their responses to the show.

Pocket Henry V on Thursday, March 6, in the Theatre Royal, Margate at 7.30pm.

Tickets: £12, schools £6. Call 01843 292795.
