Canterbury Tales tourist attraction marks spring equinox with live performance

A live performance of one of Geoffrey Chaucer’s best-loved tales will mark the spring equinox on Saturday, March 21.

Visitors to the Canterbury Tales attraction in the city can enjoy a vivid recreation of the Nun’s Priest’s Tale, which tells the story of proud cockerel Chantecleer as he tries to outwit a cunning fox.

The venue’s Lyndsay Ridley says: “In medieval times, the start of the year was celebrated around the spring equinox as it was a time that heralded new beginnings – planting the fields with crops, the arrival of spring flowers, and helping domesticated animals give birth.

The Nun’s Priest’s Tale is a wonderful farmyard fable, so our live performance seemed a fitting way to celebrate the arrival of spring.

The attraction has just undergone a £20,000 refurbishment programme, including improved access for wheelchair users.

Entry costs £8.95 for adults and £6.95 for children aged five to 15.
