Mr Gower, of Tudeley Lane, Tonbridge, had been walking a dog at the time, which was found unharmed at the scene.

An inquest into Mr Gower's death was opened on August 20, 2020, at County Hall, Maidstone.

His cause of death was given as multiple injuries.

Mr Gower was found about 200 metres south of the Vauxhall Inn pub just before 9.15pm with injuries consistent with being hurt in a collision, but no vehicle had stopped at the scene after the incident.

The vehicle involved had left the scene and on the following day Terry Gruber was arrested and bailed, pending a complex and lengthy police investigation.
