Harley Davidson rider from Kings Hill had no insurance or licence to ride bike and was over legal drink-drive limit

A Harley Davidson rider got on a bike while over the legal-drink drive limit and when police pulled him over, he was found to have no insurance or licence to ride the machine.

Douglas Herridge was pulled over as he drove back to his home in Kings Hill in February and when police spoke to him, they asked him to do a breath test.

The 24-year-old gave a reading of namely 41microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the legal limit is 35.

He was arrested and later charged with drink-driving and further checks by officers found he didn't have a licence or insurance to drive the bike.

Herridge of Atlas Close, Kings Hill, West Malling was also charged with driving without insurance or a licence and admitted all three offences when he appeared before magistrates in Medway on March 29.

James Nichols prosecuting told the court Herridge was pulled over in the road he lives in on February 22 and was taken to the police station after being arrested.

Defending himself Herridge said: "Over Christmas I was put into rehab. I relapsed on my alcohol. I just wanted to ride a motorbike but I can't handle my drink."

Magistrates banned Herridge, a painter and decorator, from driving for 12 months and fined him £80 for the drink-driving offence.

He was also fined £80 for the no insurance offence and had his licence endorsed, but received no separate penalty for the no licence offence.

Herridge was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £64 and £85 court costs.
