Woman suffers burns after trying to put out kitchen fire in Royal Crescent, Margate with bucket of water

A woman suffered burns to her hands when she used a bucket of water to tackle a small fire in her Margate kitchen.

Firefighters were called to the property in Royal Crescent just after 8.30pm last night, after the blaze broke out in a bin in her kitchen.

When they arrived the fire had been put out by a woman in her mid 20s who lived there.

But she was suffering the effects of inhaling smoke, and had burns to her hands after trying to tackle the fire using a bucket of water.

Crews gave her first aid, then handed her over to paramedics.

Firefighters dampened down in the kitchen area of the flat on the first floor of the two-storey building.

They used a ventilation fan to clear the smoke after the fire, which was believed to have been accidental.
