A 21-year-old man, who attacked a semi-professional boxer with a golf club and axe during a 4am bust-up, has been jailed for five years.

Kai Clarke struck Mustapha Daniels six times, leaving him nursing head, wrist and body wounds.

Clarke had been out with his neighbour when the two fell out and they began an argument in High Street, Margate.

Carpenter Clarke, who was originally arrested on a charge of attempted murder, claimed he was at his home when a brick was thrown through a window of his home in Park Place.

He said it hit his mother and showered a child with broken glass.

Clarke's barrister Ronnie Manek claimed Daniels had then gone out to confront Mr Daniels armed with a golf club.

Canterbury Crown Court heard how part of the incident was caught on a neighbour’s mobile phone and shown to the judge.

Clarke admitted wounding the victim with intent and also driving dangerously on separate occasion.

Prosecutor Dominic Connolly said that in March last year police were called to the block of flats where a communal stairwell was covered in blood.

Mr Daniels was discovered bleeding but he became "uncooperative" and officers needed to use tazers before he was then taken to hospital for treatment.

Mr Connolly said the victim, who spent four days recovering in hospital, had not co-operated with the prosecution claiming he couldn't recall what had happened.

Clarke was arrested in a nearby hiding in an hotel, the court heard.

The learner driver was also spotted driving a Ford and sped away at twice the speed limit in snow and ice.

He later pretended he hadn’t been man at the wheel but was convicted by a jury.

Judge Rupert Lowe told him he had behaved like a "stupid little boy" in attempting to escape from officers, driving through a junction.

"This was disgraceful behaviour and yet later that month you went out with Mr Daniels when there was a falling out.

"There was some kind of incident between him and another and it is clear that Mr Daniels was angry with you."

Clarke claimed Mr Daniels had brandished an axe but he overpowered him and disarmed him - an account questioned by the judge.

"Mr Daniels was a very powerful boxer I find it hard to believe you disarmed him. I am told he is not a very nice person but that doesn't make it right for you to attack him because that would just be the law of the jungle."
