Incident in Hawley Street, Margate , results in 20-year-old man man suffering head injuries

Police are appealing for witnesses to an alleged assault in which a 20-year-old man suffered head injuries and needed hospital treatment.

It happened at around 3.30am in Hawley Street in Margate town centre on New Year's Day.

Two men are reported to have got into an altercation which led to one of them being injured.

Detective Steve Tring from the CID team at Margate said: "The injured man has told police how he had earlier been celebrating New Year’s Eve at a party in Cliftonville.

"He recalls leaving the party at around 3.30am and walking along Northdown Road to Margate where the incident happened.

A 21 year-old local man was arrested later on January 1 and has since been bailed to February 11 while police enquiries continue.
