Oliver Carson, arrested in Margate in December, jailed on drug and knife charges at Canterbury Crown Court

A man has been sent to jail for six years after he admitted drug offences and possessing a knife in public.

Oliver Carson, aged 23, of no fixed address was sentenced at Canterbury Crown Court on Friday.

Carson was arrested in Margate on Friday, December 23, when he initially gave false details and was found with 16 small rocks of crack cocaine and nine small cling film wraps of heroin in his jacket pocket and a three-inch vegetable knife in his bag.

Officers also seized two phones and £30 in cash.

He later failed to surrender to bail at Margate Police Station on Wednesday, January 11.

He was found after police were called to Adelaide Gardens, Ramsgate, on Wednesday, February 8.

Carson was sentenced to five and a half years for the drug offences and six months for possessing a knife in public, to run consecutively.

Investigating officer Lee Heptinstall said: "The quantity of individual drug wraps found in Carson’s possession clearly exceeded what would be considered personal use.

"I hope his six year sentence sends a very strong message that anyone caught dealing drugs in our communities will be arrested and dealt with robustly by the courts."
