M2 coastbound between Junction 5 for Sittingbourne and Junction 7 for Faversham now clear after coach fire

Drivers faced delays on the M2 following a vehicle fire earlier today, but now all lanes have been reopened.

The coastbound carriageway between Sittingbourne and Faversham had been affected after the fire on a coach on the motorway.

National Highways said there would be delays of up to 65 minutes in the area.

However, fire crews have since put out the flames and now the vehicle has been removed from the road and all lanes have since reopened.

Five fire engines and a bulk water carrier attended the blaze and crews used a foam jet and hose reel jets to tackle the flames.

All passengers had been evacuated when the teams arrived and there were no reported injuries.

The cause of the fire is not yet known but is believed to be accidental.

Eyewitnesses also reported seeing multiple people left stranded on the side of the motorway as fire engines attended the scene.

The police have been contacted for comment.
