Joe Dowley praised the impact of teenage forward Josh West after Sittingbourne registered their first win in six at Bourne Park.

The Brickies came from 1-0 down at half-time to beat Crawley Down 2-1 in Ryman League Division 1 South on Tuesday and banish the memory of Saturday’s home defeat to Hythe.

West changed the game when he replaced Anthony Hogg in the second half.

The teenager terrorised the Down defence with his pace and won a penalty on 65 minutes which Joe Goldsmith netted to equalise, and Hicham Akhazzan got the winner 11 minutes from time.

Boss Dowley – who returned to the dugout after missing Saturday’s game due to a personal engagement – said: "We didn’t play well at all in the first half but we changed from 4-5-1 to 4-4-2 in the second and got a bit more joy.

"Josh came on and showed a lot of energy. He probably deserves to start the next game."

Walton & Hersham visit Bourne Park on Saturday and Dowley added: "They are another team around us and it’s a good chance for us to move up."

Midfielder Anthony Hogg is unavailable for the game due to work commitments.
