A249 blocked with tailbacks from Stockbury roundabout to Sittingbourne

Two cars crashed on the A249 near Stockbury roundabout this evening, causing massive tailbacks.

Police were called to the accident at 3.55pm, which happened on the Maidstone-bound carriageway near the M2 junction.

The road was blocked while the two cars - a maroon Mazda and a grey BMW - were recovered.

Rush hour motorists were stuck in tailabacks from the Stockbury roundabout to Sittingbourne for up to 30 minutes.

The road was clear by 6.15pm.

Police said no injuries were reported.

Earlier this week it was announced that up to £100 million could be spent on improving the congestion-hit junction which joins the A249 to the M2.
