Martin McDonagh will represent Kent on Saturday as he fights for the title of under-13 40kg regional champion.

The Sheerness ABC youngster earned the right to box for the county after clinching the Kent title at the Junior Championships on Saturday.

McDonagh, 13, had to win two fights in a day to line up a grudge match against Woking’s Connor McKinnon - a fighter who beat him by a single point in last year’s regional contest.

Head coach Steve Brum was delighted with his young fighter from Halfway.

“He’s great, he’s very dedicated and he gives hundred and ten per cent every time. We couldn’t have asked for any more from him.

“It would be his dream come true if he cracked this one but he’s already achieved one ambition which was to represent Kent.”

McDonagh was one of three Sheerness ABC fighters at the event with Josh Brum, from Queenborough and Rushenden’s Jake Montella also in action. The pair lost their matches but came close.

“The other two were unlucky,” said Brum.

“As a club we’re delighted to see three of our boys come through and hopefully there are more to follow.”
