Beware danger pothole in Minster, Sheppey

Motorists have been warned to beware of a dangerous pothole which has opened up in The Broadway, Minster, near the Abbey Hotel.

Water had been seeping out from beneath the road for a number of weeks and then workmen dug a hole to investigate.

But the temporary patch has been worn away by traffic and the leak has returned.

Many cars travelling from the White House towards Wards Hill Road have been hitting the pothole.

A spokesman for Southern Water said today: "A team has investigated the leak. As far as I am aware, the repair has been completed. We may be waiting for the surface to be reinstated."

Meanwhile, notices warning drivers to be careful of the area were posted on social media networks this morning.

The pothole is yards away from another leak.

Water has been running down Sexburga Drive for at least two weeks and formed a large puddle on The Broadway.

A Southern Water spokesman said: "An inspector has already been sent to the area and our specialist leakage team will now need to identify the source of the leak before any further action can be taken."

The pothole is also near where a stolen Porsche crashed shortly after 2.30am on Saturday.

Debris was left strewn across the road after the luxury car was written off. Police are still searching for the driver who abandoned the vehicle and left the scene.
