A driver has been injured this morning after crashing into railings on Brielle Way.

It happened at about 8.30am heading towards Queenborough, next to the steel mill but after the old railway line.

It is thought the driver may have hit some concrete which was in the road and veered across the on-coming traffic and ended up mounting the kerb.

Police confirmed there was something in the road but said it is unclear if that caused the accident.

Fire and ambulance crews were also called and firefighters cut the railings so they could open the door of the white Mercedes van and free the man, thought to be in his 30s.

He was treated by paramedics at the scene for minor injuries including a cut to the forehead, but was not taken to hospital.

The road was closed temporarily while the driver was freed.
