The Sheppey Pirates and Zulus have again launched their assault on the Junior Pirates at Barton’s Point.

Captain Cutlass, leader of the Sheppey Pirates, wielded his weapons and yelled “attack” and the Junior Pirates’ Day battle commenced at the coastal park off Marine Parade, Sheerness, on Sunday.

Hundreds of boys and girls and their parents lined the shores of the lake and bombarded the pirates with water bombs, super-soakers and buckets of water.

The pirates, in two rowing boats, came in from the opposite end of the lake in full view of the youngsters and the Zulus

joined them aboard yellow pedaloes.

Sheppey Pirate John “Scurvy Dog” Nurden said: “I’ve lived to tell the tale and it really is just a wonderful time when the youngsters can get away with doing things they couldn’t normally get away with.

“The pirates put on a game attack and managed to land and indeed take over the Isle of Sheppey until the plank-walking championships next weekend.”

After the battle had finished, the Zulus staged a tug of war match and the pirates demonstrated some musket fire and canons.

There was also a climbing wall which some of the children enjoyed using.
