Halfway Houses on the move

The planned relocation of Halfway Houses primary to the nearby former Danley Middle School site is progressing, with parents and residents being asked their views.

A drop-in information session will be held at the school in Southdown Road, Halfway, from 3.30pm to 6pm on Monday.

Parents, residents and councillors representing the area have been invited to attend and meet representatives from NPS architects and Kent County Council’s Capital Projects team.

Danley has remained unused since the opening of the Sheppey Academy in 2009 when the Island’s education structure changed from three to two tiers.

KCC would not reveal what would happen to Halfway Houses’ existing school buildings if the move to the Danley Road site was approved or how much the planned refurbishment would cost.

A spokesman said: “Kent County Council is considering converting the former Danley Middle School to provide accommodation for the Halfway Houses Primary School to move into.

“We are intending to submit a planning application that will provide for revised windows and roof, together with a redesigned entrance.

“However, prior to submitting that application we want to provide parents and local residents with an early opportunity to see and comment on our proposals.”

Formal consultation will be carried out as part of the planning process. It is thought that if approved, work will start on the Danley site in the new year with the move taking place in August/September 2011.
