Boy, 14, arrested for suspected arson attack at former Georgian house site in Ash, near Sandwich

Police have arrested a 14-year-old boy on suspicion of arson after a fire broke out at a historic site.

Officers and the fire service were called to the blaze at an empty workshop in Ash near Sandwich on Sunday shortly before 9.30pm.

The fire in The Street is being treated as suspicious and was extinguished. No injuries were reported.

A police spokesman said: “Yesterday, investigating officers arrested a 14-year-old boy on suspicion of arson not endangering life.

“He has since been bailed while enquiries continue.”

The building is understood to be on the site of a former Georgian home known as Rose Hill.

It also went up in flames on bonfire night in 2022 and was understood to have been occupied by intruders.
