Cycle ride in memory of Emily - "We've done it!"

'Every mile we'll be thinking of you.' That's how the Loughrey family signed off as they began the final stage of their 10 day cycle trek from Lands End to John O'Groats in memory of daughter and sister Emily Rose.

St Mary's Islander Matt Loughrey and his team of eight, including youngest daughter Jessica were joined by mum Caroline for the final 51 miles.

The marathon began in Cornwall last Monday, the date of what would been the 23rd birthday of Matt's eldest daughter Emily.

The team reached the finishing line at 2.40pm, on Thursday June 12 a year to the day since Emily's death from cancer.

Matt said: “Crossing that finish line was a fantastic feeling for all of us, especially for Jessica.

"It’s just sinking in now, what an incredible feat the bike ride was. I am really proud of all the team and the support we had along the way was incredible."
