Chatham Town hit treble figures at the weekend and could win promotion from the Southern Counties East Premier Division this weekend

Promotion-chasing Chatham joined an elite band of clubs at the weekend after hitting treble figures for goals.

Chats came from behind on Saturday to beat Fisher 2-1 thanks to efforts from Ryan Hayes and Dan Bradshaw in front of close to 700 fans at the Bauvill Stadium.

They’ve now scored 100 goals from 33 games, conceding 17.

There are seven step five teams who have reached the magic 100 mark, with Chatham and New Salamis from the Spartan South Midlands League joining the party on Saturday.

Manager and chairman Kevin Hake praised his team for their goalscoring form but was keen to also highlight their impressive defensive record.

He said: “It’s great to score 100 league goals in a season, especially when we have five games to go.

“Great credit has to go to the team to achieve this which makes us one of the highest-scoring teams in the country.

“Special mention also needs to go to our defence, who have only conceded 17 goals all season, which again is one of the best records in the country. It’s a real team effort from everyone involved at the club and it’s a record we are very proud of.”

Chats are fighting Sheppey for top spot in the Southern Counties East Premier Division. Sheppey secured their promotion to the Isthmian League for next season with a Tuesday night win at Crowborough.

Next up for Chats on Saturday is an away game at Punjab United and victory there will mean they, too, are promoted.

Hake added: “There are a big five games to go now as we challenge for the title and will do our best to continue to extend our unbeaten 21 league game run so we finish on top.”
