The RAF Search and Rescue team offered assistance when a concerned caller thought someone was hurt on a boat in the Medway.

The distinctive yellow Sea King helicopter could be seen hovering over the river at 3pm today.

A boat was forced to come ashore at Ship Pier in Chatham. But it was a false alarm.

Medway Coastguard was sent to the scene and a land ambulance was dispatched to meet the vessel at the pier.

A spokesman for Medway Coastguard said: "The RAF Search and Rescue helicopter was in the area on an exercise and flew across to see if they could help."

The Sea King helicopter is based at RAF Wattisham in East Anglia.
