More than 400 vehicles were stopped and motorists questioned by police at the scene of a collision which killed a mother and her daughter.

Road checks at the scene of the crash which killed Elsie Blades, 84, and her 60-year-old daughter Marilyn Herlihy were set up on Sunday between 11.30am to 12.30pm.

The crash which killed the pair happened the Sunday before, in Station Road, Strood.

The checks were set up to find potential witnesses.

A spokesman for Medway Police said: “During the checks details were taken from about 20 people and it is hoped the information provided by drivers will assist police in their investigation into the collision.

“Officers also carried out house-to-house enquiries to find further witnesses and they (the officers) have also issued appeal posters and carried out a leaflet drop in the area.”

Anyone with information should call 01622 798535 or CrimeStoppers on 0800 555111.
