Lola Moxom, from Rochester, playing Annie in West End production

Schoolgirl Lola Moxom has landed the star role in the West End production of Annie.

The 11-year-old from Rochester is performing alongside actress and comedy writer Miranda Hart in the musical.

Lola was one of more than 4,000 young hopefuls to apply for the part.

She said she was shocked to discover she had won over judges at auditions and will be sharing the role with two other girls.

Lola comes from a musical family and has been singing and dancing since she was four.

She said: “My mum is a singer and my dad is a musician.

“In our house it can be very noisy as my sister also does the same as me.

“Singing, dancing and acting, I love it and wouldn’t have it any other way.”

She started doing stage work when she was six and has performed in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s School of Rock.

She loves working with Ms Hart, who plays Miss Hannigan who runs the orphanage where Annie lives before being plucked away to a new life with a famous billionaire.

She said: “She is amazing to work with and very funny as you can imagine.

“Rehearsals were a lot of fun.

“Miranda is lovely to all of us kids – and we share the same birthday, which is really cool.

“I love musical theatre and I would love to carry on in the West End or Broadway.

“I’d like to be a recording artist and record my own songs and be in a film or a TV series.

“Not asking much am I?”

“We are very careful to make sure we keep up-to-date with our school work, all the kids in the show know how important it is.”

Lola is in Year 7 at a school in London.

Her parents, Simone and Gary and sister Lia, aged 15, are proud of her.

Lola said: “At present my mum has seen every one of my shows and my dad still sheds a tear when he watches.

“I still pinch myself because this really is a dream come true and to be performing with such an amazing cast around me with the best creative team is truly surreal. I love being Annie.”

The show runs at the Piccadilly Theatre, Denman St, Soho, until January 6.
