Blue set to perform at Castle Concerts, Rochester, along side Peter Andre

It’s kinda funny how life can change, but members of boy band Blue are just glad to be back performing for their fans.

It has been 15 years since the band formed and, with 15 million records sold worldwide, the four are headed to Rochester for the first time this month.

Antony Costa said they were looking forward to the Castle Concerts. He said: “We just love going out there and performing. We’re going to do all the hits, that’s what people want to hear.

“If we can entertain people and they go home with a smile on their face, we’ve done a good job.”

Although fellow band member Lee Ryan grew up in Chatham, it will be the first time the band have all visited the area.

The pair, along with Duncan James and Simon Webbe, formed the band in 2000, going on to have three number one studio albums and releasing 16 singles, including collaborations with Elton John and Stevie Wonder.

The band split in 2004 but reformed in 2009 and represented the UK at Eurovision in 2011.

Antony said: “We’re older and we’re wiser now, we like to think. We just enjoy it. When Blue weren’t about it was very hard to do your own thing. It’s great to get back together with the boys.”

They reunited for The Big Reunion in 2013, going on tour with pop groups Five, Bew*tched, Atomic Kitten, 911, Honeyz and Liberty X.

Antony said it was great being back with everyone: “It was such a laugh, we had great banter with the other bands. It was a great show to be a part of.”

A lot has changed for the boys and Antony, 34, said: “We’re just enjoying it. Nothing’s set in stone, just keep going, keep doing shows and just keep working.

“We love what we do and as long as we can pay our bills, pay our mortgage, what better job to do? We live every day as it comes. We’re so blessed to be doing it again.”

Blue will perform on Thursday, July 16, with Peter Andre and The Voice 2014 winner Jermain Jackman.

The concert series begins on Wednesday, July 15, with rockers Status Quo, supported by Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel. Tickets for that concert have now sold out.

Grammy Award-winning Billy Ocean will headline on Friday, July 17, with DJ Sara Cox and Cheryl, Mike and Jay, formerly of Bucks Fizz.

The concerts close with The Proms on Saturday, July 18, with soprano Laura Wright, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Jonathan Antoine.

The Castle Gardens will be open during the day, but will close at 4pm and anyone without a ticket will be asked to leave. Gates will reopen at 4.30pm.
