Ice men struggling to retain premier status

KENT'S only ice hockey team, Invicta Dynamos, have until Sunday to save their English National Premier League pedigree following problems over sponsorship.

Jackie Mason, the Gillingham-based team's director, said: “We are still hoping and have a meeting with a potential sponsor, but these deals take time.

“We will continue to work tirelessly to secure the highest standard of ice hockey possible for the Gillingham Ice Bowl.”

If this last effort to tie up a main sponsor fails, the Mos will be playing their hockey next season in the English National League (South).

Problems arose when former sponsors Kelly Cartons failed to renew their deal because of lack of funds. This left the Dynamos with a substantial deficit in the £125,000 needed to run a team in the ENPL.

On Sunday, the club’s management are due in Nottingham for the ENPL’s fixtures meeting.

They will have to make a decision then whether to take their place in the league they won in style two years ago or drop down a level.

If any company or individual can provide sponsorship they are asked to contact club director Jackie Mason on 07710 742427.
