Teen suffers broken thigh in alleged attack by another girl at disused bus station at Pentagon Shopping Centre, Chatham

A teenager had her leg broken during an alleged attack by another girl in the former bus station at the Pentagon Shopping Centre in Chatham.

The girl, from Strood, was reportedly set upon by another teenager near to the Wilko store at the shopping centre on Good Friday.

The 13-year-old victim remains in hospital with a broken thigh and will have to undergo surgery to correct the break, it is understood.

It is thought she will need to learn to walk again as part of her recovery.

The incident happened in the now disused bus station on level two of the shopping centre between noon and 12.15pm.

Police are investigating.

Spokesman for the force, James Walker, said officers are appealing for witnesses.

He added: "The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment to a broken leg and a 13-year-old girl has since been arrested on suspicion of assault.

"She has since been released, pending further enquiries."

Jaya Relwani, spokesman for the Pentagon Shopping Centre added: "The police are appealing for witnesses of an alleged attack that started in the disused bus station which is owned and controlled by Medway Council and adjacent to The Pentagon Shopping Centre.

"The onsite staff at The Pentagon Centre are fully co-operating with the police in their investigations and we would urge any members of the public who may be able to help the police with their enquiries.

"The safety of our customers is the number one priority for the Pentagon Shopping Centre and we would like to extend our deepest sympathy and support to the victim and her family."

Friends of the injured girl's family have set up a fundraising page to give her a nice treat after she has recovered, and have raised almost £300 so far.
