A fundraiser set up to help find a missing man is now raising money to bring his body home.

The gofundme campaign was first launched for Liam Graham, who went missing from Lower Stoke on July 22, to offer a reward for any information which could have led to his whereabouts.

But after police confirmed on Wednesday the 22-year-old’s body had been found in The Netherlands, the family have now changed the purpose of the fund to bringing their beloved Liam back home.

Posting on the social media page set up to help find Liam, his sister Holly Graham said: “When Liam went missing we opened a gofundme to create a reward fund for any information on Liam’s location. Unfortunately, now this money won’t be able to be used for its initial use.

“We as a family are so extremely grateful for all of the donations and would like to ask if we could use the money to go towards giving Liam the send off he deserves.

“At this moment we are unsure whether we need to pay for Liam to get home, so it could also go towards helping getting him home where he belongs.

“At the moment we are unsure of the legalities around changing where the money from the gofundme goes, so if anyone has any idea about how this works please message me.

“If anybody does not want the money they donated going towards this, please feel free to get this refunded.

“I would just like to say thank you again, so much for your continuous support. We as a family are eternally greatful towards this community we are all a part of.”

The fund has already received more than £4,000 in donations, with contributors saying they were keen to see their money used the way the family wanted and to give Liam “the send off he deserves”.

One donor said: “The money was always to bring him home, although it may not be bringing him home the way anyone would have wanted nor expected, you should absolutely use the money however you need.

“I’m sure many more people will be happy to donate to giving him the send off he deserves.”

Since Liam went missing, family and friends spent hours searching the area where he was last seen walking away from a car crash on Lower Road and holding his head.

On Saturday, October 7, a wallet belonging to Liam was found on farmland.

In a statement issued to KentOnline at the beginning of August, Liam’s mother Joanne, sister Holly, and brother Christian promised the 22-year-old they would continue their search until he was back home.

“Words cannot describe the heartbreak our whole family is going through at this moment in time and it is getting harder as time goes on,” they said.

Through the power of social media, people who did not even know Liam volunteered to search ditches and fields in the area he was last seen, while a plane was used to fly repeatedly over the wide expanse of land.

Liam’s family previously said he had a heart condition and that they believed he could possibly have suffered a head injury.

A Kent Police spokesman said officers are continuing to work with colleagues in The Netherlands to establish the circumstances surrounding his death.
