Traffic was queueing before Junction 2 at Sundridge Hill as firefighters in two fire engines put out flames by dousing the hatchback in foam.

Crews were seen talking to the driver as he stood near his vehicle on the hard shoulder.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "The service was called to reports of a car fire on the hard shoulder of the M2 close to J3 at around 06.39. Two fire engines were sent to the scene."

Fire crews used compressed air foam to extinguish the fire, and left the scene at 7.09am.
