Stones go for the double

BASS Brewers Kent League champions Maidstone United go in search of a league and cup double on Saturday with manager Jim Ward warning his players against complacency.

The Stones travel to Folkestone's Cheriton Road ground to play Whitstable in the final of the Kent League Cup less than a month after beating the East Kent side 7-3 in a league match which turned the title race on its head.

The Stones squad returned to training this week after being given a time off to celebrate their championship win and Ward and captain Paul Foley are hoping for a repeat of last season when they lifted the trophy with their former club Ramsgate.

Ward said: "We must turn up with the same positive attitude we always do and there is no room for complacency in our squad. We expect Whitstable to play much better than in our previous meeting and I have a fully fit squad to choose from."

The final is expected to attract a crowd of around 1,000 with Maidstone bringing six coachloads of fans and Whitstable also well supported. Kick-off is at 3pm.
