Jack Parkinson feels the time may be right to try and turn professional.

Parkinson is considering his future at Maidstone United after leaving his job as academy head coach.

He has a year to run on his playing deal with Stones but appeared on trial for League 2 Cambridge at the weekend.

Parkinson previously turned down a move to the Football League with Stevenage and with his 26th birthday approaching, it could be now or never.

He said: "I'm happy at Maidstone but if the chance to do something full-time came up, I'd love to give it a go.

"I'd need to be good enough and if I am then great but if not I'm in no rush to leave.

"I want people to know that I'm not trying to force my way out of the club.

"It's just that the academy was my job and now I don't have it I won't be earning that money.

"Now it's gone it's a good time to have a look at things.

"It went all right at Cambridge. I'm not sure if anything will come of it.

"They're the only league club I've spoken to."

Parkinson enjoyed plenty of success with Maidstone's academy but couldn't agree a new deal.

He said: "It's one of those things. We couldn't agree terms and that's it. You just get on with it.

"I did think about leaving last summer but thought I'd give it another year.

"I've been there four years and we've had a lot of success but it may be time for a change.

"This might be the push I need to try and go full-time.

"I'm proud of the success we've had.

"What we've created there is fantastic and I wish the academy all the best for the future.

"I've not fallen out with anybody at the club. It's purely down to not being able to agree terms.

"I'll still be carrying on with the soccer schools and the coaching set-up with Jay Saunders down at the ground."
