Hume finding midfield selection tough

HEADACHE: Lloyd Hume

Maidstone United v Godalming Town

A NINE-GAME unbeaten run has left Maidstone United on the brink of the Ryman 1 South play-off places and joint-manager Lloyd Hume faces a major selection dilemma ahead of Saturday's game with Godalming.

The Stones have no injury worries and Hume’s severest headache is in central midfield.

He said: "Sam Tydeman is the club captain and has been our most consistent player for the past two seasons.

"Errison Ahwan is irreplacable as an athlete and Jason Barton has made it almost impossible to leave him out."

The Stones gave arguably their most accomplished display of the season at Cray on Tuesday, fighting back from 1-0 down with 18 minutes to play to win 2-1.

They now lie in sixth-place, one place below the play-off zone and with at least three games in hand over all the sides above them.

Nathan Paul has been one of the stars of the Stones’ run and Hume believes he has the ability to make it as a professional.

He said: "There is no doubt in my mind that he has the ability to play in the Football League.

"Nathan’s under contract and it wouldn’t happen but if a club at our level came in, I’d turn down £30,000 for him.

"If a Football League club came in, I’d let him go for a fiver, he’d go with my blessing and I’d follow his career with interest."
