Two of three lanes on the London-bound carriageway were shut.

Staff at Mickey’s Diner, which is just off the A229, reported seeing ambulances go past earlier in the evening.

KCC Highways warned drivers to expect delays on the approach and announced an expected completion time of 8.30pm.

Traffic was heavier than normal in the area following an earlier accident where a lorry caught fire.

All traffic was temporarily held earlier today due to the trailer blaze on the coastbound carriageway between J5, Aylesford, to J6, the A229 by Maidstone and Blue Bell Hill.
