A woman has been found guilty of causing wilful neglect after being discovered unconscious in a kitchen lying on top of a baby.

Magistrates at Sittingbourne yesterday heard how the woman was discovered by police after they were called to an address in Park Wood, Maidstone, last April.

Officers initially thought she was dead before rousing her and discovering the child.

The woman admitted she had been "in a state" having taken methadone earlier that day, followed by valium and some wine, but denied being wilfully neglectful.

She will be sentenced at Maidstone Magistrates' Court on June 24.
