Kent County Show bosses confirm National Highways has no A249 closures planned during popular event

Those travelling to the popular Kent County Show can rest assured that there will be no road works along major routes across the weekend of the event.

Planners of the farming and countryside celebration have confirmed that there will be no A249 closures on Friday, July 7, Saturday, July 8, and Sunday, July 9.

Known as one of Kent’s biggest summer events the Kent County Show, which is being held at the Kent Showground, in Detling near Maidstone, is celebrating its 100th anniversary with animal encounters, crazy golf and go-karts.

Established in 1923 it is once again expected to draw thousands of visitors to the area next month.

However, after hundreds of drivers faced two-and-a-half hour queues to get to a bank holiday car event at the same site last month, organisers of the Kent County Show are “making it clear” that an agreement has been made with Kent Highways to prevent something similar happening in July.

A spokesman said: “The Kent Show wants to have the opportunity to make clear to the public that the A249 will have no traffic closures over the weekend of the Show as agreed with Kent Highways.”

When contacted for comment National Highways urged motorists to check their website for upcoming closures planned for work on the multi-million-pound Stockbury flyover project.

The next closure on the A249 is tonight from 8pm until 5am on Monday.

The southbound carriageway between Bobbing and the Stockbury roundabouts will be closed.

Traffic will be diverted via Maidstone Road from the Key Street roundabout. The link to the Stockbury roundabout from Maidstone Road will be temporarily reopened for southbound traffic during this closure, then close permanently.

When the road reopens on Monday, June 12, southbound traffic will use the new carriageway.

Separate from the improvement scheme, National Highways are carrying out resurfacing on the M2.

It will also close from Monday 19 to Friday, June 23, between 8pm and 6am each night.
