Maidstone United manager Jay Saunders has bolstered his squad with the capture of imposing centre back Gavin Greenfield, captain of the British Army team.

The serving soldier - based with the 36 Royal Engineers in Maidstone - has been on the books of Ryman League, Division 1 North side Great Wakering Rovers.

Saunders (pictured) made a seven-day approach to his side last week to provide competition at the back alongside Nick Reeves and Graeme Andrews.

The deal was sealed on Monday night, with the 6'1" centre back in line to feature against Dover Athletic at Bourne Park in the Kent Senior Cup on Wednesday night.

Greenfield is currently a driver in the Army but is currently attaining his certification to become a physical training instructor.
