Maidstone: Fire crews called after discarded cigarette causes blaze in King Street

Firefighters were called after smoke from a discarded cigarette caused panic in Maidstone town centre last night.

A member of the public called 999 at around 8.40pm after seeing smoke coming from a plant pot in Colman House in King Street.

Two fire engines attended and crews used a hose reel jet to clear the smoke and stop the risk of the cigarette re-lighting.

Crews left the scene at 9.11pm.
