Wings boss relaxed over cup test

SMITH: "They know it will not be easy"

Eastbourne Borough v Welling

WELLING manager Neil Smith believes the pressure is firmly on Eastbourne ahead of Saturday's FA Cup third qualifying round tie.

The Wings are underdogs as they make the trip to Priory Lane to face a side that are joint-top of Blue Square South and beat Welling 1-0 in the league last month.

But Smith knows the home side will be expected to ease through – and is ready for his Welling team to capitalise.

"No one is giving us a chance down there but that doesn't bother our players," said Smith. "The pressure is on Eastbourne to get a result. We gave them a good game in the league so they know it will not be easy.

"We've brought in a few more players since then and added some quality so we're up for this game."

Welling will be boosted by the return of skipper Richard Carpenter (knee), while leading scorer Omari Coleman and Sam Keevill are both approaching full fitness.

Smith added: "With the players coming back from injury we've added real depth to our squad so it's up to the players starting the games to make sure they keep their places."

Keeper Jamie Turner returns in goal at Eastbourne as Clark Masters, who extended his loan from Brentford last week, is not eligible.

Any replay will take place at Park View Road on Tuesday, kick-off 7.45pm.
