Wasted chances costly for Margate

Doncaster 1 Margate 0

A LATE penalty sent Margate sliding to their fourth away defeat of the season in the Nationwide Conference at Doncaster on Saturday.

Chris Kinnear's side created a host of chances in the first half but were unable to take advantage and paid the price when Jamie Paterson scored from the spot with 15 minutes remaining.

Gate's top scorer Leon Braithwaite was guilty of the worst miss, blasting the ball over after being sent clear by Terry McFlynn, while home keeper Lee Butler twice had good fortune in dealing with efforts from Nick Roddis and Paul Lamb.

Doncaster's winning goal followed a foul on Paterson by Nick Roddis, although even after that Margate's Simon Beard nearly salvaged a point with a volley that Butler somehow kept out.
