Ebbsfleet manager Liam Daish admitted it would take time for his side’s FA Trophy success to sink in.

Fleet defeated Torquay 1-0 in the final at Wembley on Saturday thanks to a Chris McPhee goal in first half stoppage time to win the competition for the first time in their history.

Daish said: “I thought it was an achievement for a club like ours to get into a major final like this.

“I thought we were always going to have a good day out, and the fans would have a good day out, but to then actually win it and lift a major trophy for a club like ours is unbelievable.

“It might sink in during a quiet moment later on with the staff , with a glass of champagne, but at the moment I am just watching the lads celebrating and getting my buzz and kicks off that.”

Daish said he felt his side’s preparation for the final since the last league game of the season had been spot on.

“The players and staff around me have done everything right,” he said. “Sometimes you look back and think ‘I could have done that better’ but the last training session yesterday at Bisham Abbey just went really well.

“Everything went so smoothly and to plan that I came away after that last session and I thought ‘that’ll do me.’

“I thought we couldn’t get any better prep than that so I decided to go and find a golf course and play a bit of golf because I was so at ease with how we had shaped up leading in.”
