YOUNG Kent judo player Kyle Myers has been selected to take part in the World Class Start Programme.

The programme’s aim is to equip him with the skills, experience and knowledge he needs to ultimately compete with the world’s best.

As part of the programme the 13-year-old, from Parkwood Judo Club, Rainham, will receive specialist coaching and attend sessions and competitions alongside the country’s finest young prospects.

Myers, who is a pupil at the Howard School, was spotted after a great year in which he won medals in three major tournaments.

He recently achieved bronze at the British Junior championships in Sheffield. He lost his opening fight but went onto win his next three to take home a medal.
