FENCING youngster Christie Waddington has been back home reflecting on a great few months which has seen her win two titles and two gold medals at the junior Commonwealth Games at Chennai in India.

The 19-year-old from Chestfield, who is now studying at Newcastle University, was crowned Great Britain Under-20 sabre champion in October last year and followed that by winning the Scottish Open last month.

Christie competed for Scotland in India, qualifying courtesy of her father’s birthplace, winning individual and team titles in a competition involving nine nations and 200 competitors.

She clinched the team title beating her Northern Ireland opponent 45-43, after being the last to compete, with the Scots trailing 39-40.
