Margate aiming for upward turn

Margate v Maidenhead United

MARGATE and opponents Maidenhead United defend identical recent records in Nationwide South when the two clubs meet at Homelands in Ashford tonight.

Only four places and two points divide the two sides at start of play having taken nine points out of a possible 18 in their last six league outings respectively.

It could be a big week for Margate on and off the pitch. The club are due to meet the local council on Thursday after the deadline expired on their latest round of talks regarding the proposed £10M redevelopment of Hartsdown Park.

A win tonight and three points against Sutton United on Saturday would lift them away from the lower reaches of the table where four of the bottom six all won at the weekend.

Boss Chris Kinnear will want to see his side take their chances tonight after spurning nearly a dozen opportunities in the 2-0 defeat at Newport on Saturday, ending a run of four successive league and cup wins.

Kinnear is likely to pick from the same squad for the game as Gate look to record a double over the Berkshire side after a 4-2 win at York Road last September.

Top scorers Che Stadhart and Rocky Baptiste both scored twice that day.
