Kiely getting fighting fit

KIELY: solid performance
KIELY: solid performance

DEAN Kiely continued his comeback from a fractured finger by featuring in his second game since the start of August as Charlton reserves drew 1-1 with Tottenham Hotspur.

It was another 90 minutes for Kiely rather than the performance and result that would have interested manager Alan Curbishley, who was in Malaga the same day to officially launch the club’s latest overseas initiative, a specialist language school.

Although the two-time player of the year was beaten by Lee Barnard’s 75th-minute header, it was another solid showing from Kiely.

And given he is also likely to feature in a testimonial against Exeter City next Tuesday night at St James’ Park, the former Republic of Ireland stopper will be looking to force himself back into first-team contention in time for the visit of Fulham later this month.
