ANDY HESSENTHALER acclaimed as fantastic Gillingham’s performance in last night’s 1-0 win over promotion play-off rivals Norwich as the side bounced back from Saturday’s disappointment of losing at leaders Portsmouth.

The win stretched Gillingham’s unbeaten home run to eight League games and moved the club into 11th place.

The Gills boss, who has never doubted the team’s ability to break into the top six, said: “Our performance was fantastic. We are getting stronger with every game and the work-rate and effort was outstanding.

“We deserved to win on chances created and you have to give full credit to their goalkeeper for some terrific saves.

“I said before the game that it would probably be won by the odd goal and fortunately we got it. There is a lot of self-belief within the dressing room that we can make it into the play-offs.

“Every season one club makes a run from the pack to get into the top six and maybe it’s our turn.”

Gillingham were heading for their first goalless draw in 40 games when Rod Wallace broke the deadlock in the 75th minute with his fourth goal in four games and his eighth of the season.
