Gillingham 3 MK Dons 0

GILLINGHAM welcomed in the New Year with a comfortable victory over MK Dons.

Leon Johnson and Sean Clohessy both netted their first goals in Gills colours, while Alan Pouton hit a late third to maintain the club's impressive home record.

Gillingham were rewarded for a sustained amount of pressure when Johnson opened the scoring on 27 minutes, as he headed home Andrew Crofts' cross following a free-kick from Michael Flynn.

The second came 14 minutes later as Sean Clohessy drilled in a shot from the edge of the area, leaving 'keeper Matt Baker flat footed, and Gillingham in total control.

MK Dons came out more determined after the break and mid-way through the half twice came close to reducing the leeway when Craig Morgan had an effort well saved by Jason Brown and moments later substitute Stephen Quinn volleyed inches over from close range.

Pouton, returning after a long injury lay-off, seal victory in the final minute when he netted at the second attempt following Gavin Grant's cross.
