PAUL SCALLY bemoaned his luck as Gillingham were given a tough draw away to Portsmouth in the third round of the FA Cup.

The Gills chairman said he wanted a home draw, but said at least the club had drawn a Premiership team.

And with Pompey in some disarray following the departure of Harry Redknapp and Jim Smith, Gills fans, with their side’s giant-killing pedigree, will fancy causing another FA Cup upset.

But Mr Scally said Gillingham will not be under-estimating Portsmouth, currently being managed by executive director Velimer Zajec, as the sides clash in the FA Cup for the first time.

He said: "That sums up our luck this season. We’ve been given a difficult draw away from home, but at least we’ve got a Premiership side.

"It would have been nice to get a home tie but we don’t expect anything the way our luck is going.

"There were lots of tough ties with teams from the same division being drawn against each other so at least getting a Premiership side will ensure a full house down at Fratton Park.”

Meanwhile, Charlton have been given a favourable draw as they will take on Rochdale at The Valley in round three.
