Former star could return on loan

CHARLTON have ruled out a permanent move for former midfielder Scott Parker, but have opened the door to a possible loan deal.

New Premiership champions Chelsea paid the Addicks £10million for the England player in January 2004, but he made just seven starts for the Blues last season.

Charlton plc chairman Richard Murray said: "We were sorry to let Scott go, as everybody knows, but one of the reasons he left, apart from to play for a Champions League side, is that he was going to be paid substantially higher wages.

"If we couldn't afford to keep him and match those wages, then it would be very difficult to match them now and pay a transfer fee.

"If he was to return it would have to be on a loan basis."
