FA Trophy third qualifying round round-up

SITTINGBOURNE put up a brave performance against Cambridge City in the FA Trophy third qualifying round but ultimately went out after a 3-1 defeat on Saturday.

But the Brickies will take heart that they took the lead against the side from two divisions above when Bradley Spice opened the scoring after just eight minutes.

But it was 1-1 by half-time and Cambridge showed their quality in the second half with two further goals.

Also out of the competition are Folkestone Invicta who turned in a disappointing performance at Harlow town.

Invicta fell behind in the 50th minute when Marc Salmon slotted in a rebound after Tony Kessell had parried Leon Lalita’s initial effort.

And it was 2-0 seven minutes later when a quick throw-in caught Folkestone by surprise and substitute Cobi Ositola netted.

Steve Norman pulled a goal back with four minutes to play but it was too late for Neil Cugley’s side.

Dartford put in another impressive FA Trophy display as they held AFC Wimbledon to a goalless draw at Stonebridge Road.

Dartford have already beaten Dover Athletic and Margate in this season’s competition and carved out a number of good chances to win the game.

Tonbridge Angels must also replay after a stalemate against East Thurrock United at Longmead.

And Cray Wanderers and Kingstonian must meet again after a deflected Drew Watkins free-kick nine minutes from time earned Cray a 1-1 draw.
