Athlete Shaunagh Brown believes her experience at the 2007 World Junior Championship will stand her in good stead for this year’s competition.

Brown, from Gillingham, finished ninth in last year’s discus and is looking for a marked improvement when she travels to Bydgoszcz, Poland from July 8-13.

Last year the Blackheath and Bromley Harriers athlete qualified for the final with a throw of 45m but only managed 42m in the final.

She said: "I have had time to evaluate what I did wrong and what I can improve.

"I’ve learnt how to prepare and know the amount of training I need to do before an event."

The 18-year-old is a three-time English Schools champion and has a personal best throw of 51.18.

Brown added: "I want to be around the 60m mark by the time I’m 20.

"I’m looking forward to the championship. It makes you feel proud to be British.

"Before last year I would have said I’m English, but once I put on the kit I said I was British."
