All-rounder Trego back at St Lawrence

PETER TREGO: "It's always sad to miss out against a former club"

FORMER Kent all-rounder Peter Trego made a return to St Lawrence with his native Somerset, but his presense may have gone largely unnoticed.

He sadly failed to make the Somerset starting 11 in the C&G Trophy clash.

Trego enjoyed a stunning championship game against Kent for Middlesex at St Lawrence last summer, scoring two half centuries and taking vital wickets on his return, so was sad to miss out this time around.

"I'd have loved to have played today," said Trego, who also played in goal for Margate.

"It's always sad to miss out against a former club, but my personal focus this year is to play as much four-day cricket as possible."

Commenting on last winter's controversial decision to leave Middlesex, the club who seemingly resurrected his ailing career following his release by Kent, Trego added: "I think they understood in the end.

"There were some harsh words at first, but they eventually understood that it was the right move for me to be nearer by family.

"I even had a Christmas card from them and Embers (coach John Emburey) and the skipper (Ben Hutton) both called me and thanked me for the contribution I'd made in keeping them in Division 1."
