Wigan Athletic 3 Charlton Athletic 2

CHARLTON remain rooted to the foot of the Premiership table after going down 3-2 at Wigan on Saturday.

The home side took the lead after 13 minutes when Lee McCulloch was given far too much space in the area to pick his spot beyond Scott Carson.

It was 2-0 four minutes before the break when Henri Camara gave Carson no chance with a superb effort from the edge of the box.

Darren Bent pulled a goal back seven minutes into the second period when he capitalised on a bad mistake by Wigan's Andy Webster.

But any hopes of a comeback were dashed 12 minutes from time when substitute Matt Jackson headed home Kevin Kilbane's free-kick.

There was still time for Charlton to make it 3-2 through substitute Marcus Bent but it was too late for Iain Dowie's side.

Charlton: Carson, Young, El Karkouri, Diawara (Kishishev 75), Hreidarsson, Faye, Holland (Hasselbaink h-t), Reid, Ambrose (M Bent 84), Thomas, D Bent.
Subs not used: Andersen, Sankofa.
